this year marked a big milestone in my life...i turned 25!!!! holy crap, i'm not sure why that seems like such a big age, but it is. instead of being completely overwhelmed and worried about the age, i was more filled with excitement. this chapter definitely started off on the right foot. i had a new job, i was starting school and (quite possibly the best thing ever) the huskies beat usc for a second year in a row!!!!!! it was the best early birthday present i could have asked for. well, that and the fact that a bunch of my wonderful friends came out to celebrate the victory with me. here are some photos of debauchery:

flashback friday: labor day
so we all love federal holidays. especially those who are in school or a job that actually recognizes them. labor day is a big one that everyone has off. do we actually know why? i'm not gonna lie. i don't. i'm too busy celebrating the fact that i get to sleep in an extra day. here's a history lesson, for myself and for you.
the first labor day was celebrated on september 5, 1882 in the good ol' nyc and became a federal holiday in 1894. it was made into a holiday under the president grover cleveland (i always picture him as a furry blue guy, but that's just the sesame street grover). he needed to reconcile the labor movement after several labor workers were killed by the u.s. military and marshalls. an important issue clearly in need of a recognition day.
labor day has also been known to mark the end of summer. but us here in seattle, it really doesn't because our good weather pours into september long after labor day has passed. why do you think the uw starts so late!? summer is truly july through september people.
i think my favorite part about the wikipedia post of "labor day" is that they say it marks the beginning of nfl and college football. a somewhat true statement, however it's like a football sandwich. college begins the week before and nfl the week after. mmm, sandwiches.
also, a friendly fashion reminder: no more white pants, friends!
